Cavite should be on top of your travel bucket list! It’s often overlooked as just the extension of Metro Manila, but the province is full of fun and exciting things to do. The best part is, you get to enjoy your leisure time while keeping your historical roots intact.

With just a short ride away from the city, you’re greeted with important historical places that offer fun things to do. When in Cavite, make sure to check out these destinations.

Corregidor Island

Pretty sure almost all Pinoys have heard of Corregidor Island. It’s an island fortress where the most historic battles are fought against the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II. Although the island is located near the south of Bataan, the island is in the jurisdiction of Cavite.

Fun things to do:

  • Ride a tram around the island, constructed during the early 1900s.
  • Pass through Malinta Tunnel and see bomb-proof shelters or bunkers
  • Visit Japanese Memorial Garden and Pacific War Memorial Museum

Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine and Museum

If you talk about historical destinations in Cavite, you can’t miss out on Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine and Museum! This is the site where the Philippine flag was first unfurled by former president Emilio Aguinaldo. The place saw the country’s independence unravel right before its eyes.

Fun things to do:

  • See antique and classic art-deco furniture and ornaments
  • Visit Emilio Aguinaldo’s resting place right in the garden
  • Tour around House of History to see secret passages and shelters

Mt. Pico de Loro

The best destination to wonder at the beauty of Cavite is Mt. Pico de Loro. It’s actually a dormant volcano, standing 664 meters above sea level. It got its name as the summit looks like a parrot’s beak or simply “Pico de Loro.”

Fun things to do:

  • See scenic views of Limbones, Corregidor, and Carabao islands
  • Hike the mountain, which only has a 3/9 difficulty level
  • Rapel 50-ft to reach the monolith on the summit

This list doesn’t even cover half of the great destinations in Cavite! There are countless more to name — after all, it has 16 municipalities and 7 cities. You’ll surely have a good time exploring the historic towns and districts of the province.
