Have you recently moved into a new home and found that no matter what you do, your house would always feel dusty? Are you desperate to find a solution to this problem? Even if you clean your house frequently, dust can make it appear unkempt. Worse, dust can trigger a series of allergic reactions. Even so, by following a few simple tips and tricks, you can create a dust-free environment and save hours of cleaning time.

Here’s an easy guide on how to reduce dust in your home.

Use a Microfiber Cloth

You might think a feather duster is the best way to get rid of dust. But that’s where you’re wrong. Particles fall out of feather duster brushes as soon as you pick them up. This is where a microfiber cloth comes in handy. Because the surface of a microfiber cloth contains both positively and negatively charged fibers, dust and dirt are drawn to it as you wipe.

Microfiber cloths also remove up to 99% of surface bacteria and are non-toxic because they only require water to clean.

Get an Air Purifier

Air purifiers filter the air and capture particles like dust, pollen, and toxins.

While many air purifiers have fans to circulate the air, they cannot remove dust from furniture, carpets, or bedding. This is why you should use an air purifier in addition to vacuuming, dusting, and mopping as part of your overall cleaning plan.

Because they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, air purifiers are an excellent investment. Depending on your needs, you can get a unit for your entire house or a portable unit for one room.

Vacuum Properly for a Dust-Free Home

No matter how good your vacuum is, it won’t be able to effectively remove dust if you don’t vacuum properly. Many people vacuum each section of the floor only once, which prevents their vacuum from removing all of the dust. Remember to vacuum in overlapping motions and from floor to ceiling.

Invest in a vacuum with a HEPA filter to trap dirt, allergens, dust mites, pollen, and mold inside the filter bag rather than re-releasing them into the air. Vacuum at least once a week, and consider doing so every few days in high-traffic areas. Also, vacuum any furniture, drapes, and blinds to ensure thorough dust removal.

Wash Your Sheets Frequently

One cause of a dusty home is that you may not be washing your sheets frequently enough. You should wash your bedsheets and pillowcases at least once a week when cleaning your bedroom. If you have pets, you should wash your sheets more frequently, perhaps every 3 or 4 days.

If you have allergies or asthma, try washing your sheets more frequently to see if your symptoms improve. Wash all blankets, comforters, and mattress pads once a month. When it comes to pillows and mattresses, make sure to clean them every season to avoid dust accumulation.

Remove Clutter

Reduce the number of dusty surfaces to make dusting easier. Displaying trinkets and gifts on shelves can attract dust.

De-clutter your home to reduce dust. Countertops, tables, bookshelves, and desks need decluttering. Check your storage room and pantry for reusable items. Put the items you want to keep away from dust in an airtight bin with a lid.

Get a Doormat

Most of this dust comes from dirty shoes. What you can do is get a bristled doormat and vacuum it every few days to remove dirt. Wipe your shoes on the mat before entering the house to remove dirt and dust.

Get a boot tray for your doorstep so guests and family members can take off their shoes. You can also offer them house slippers so they can remove their shoes.

These are just suggestions to help you maintain your spotless dream home. It wouldn’t be perfect, but there’s no harm in trying.
