How small is a small living space? The majority of Filipino families have a floor area ranging from 10 to 29 square meters, which is typically the size of a condominium unit. But although your living area is limited, there are simple tricks to make the most out of it.

While it is desirable to renovate your home, it is more practical to clean up first and assess the areas you can use based on your needs. Some homeowners have started making changes to their homes to accommodate the new work-from-home setup. But with a tight budget and limited space, how can you maximize what you already have?

Install wall mirrors

This is usually what model homes show you when you take a peek at their properties. Tall mirrors are hung on the walls to bounce light and make things appear larger. It’s also nice to keep the curtain open and let the light pour in. This creates the illusion that there is more room than there actually is.

Put up ceiling-high curtains

If you have a small bungalow house with a high ceiling, take advantage of that height. Get curtains that reach from the ceiling down to the floor to elongate the room and make it feel larger. Mix it up with an item of clean-lined furniture to keep the area from feeling too crowded. It would also be best to choose a curtain with a striped pattern to make it look wider.

Keep furniture close together

There may not be enough space for a huge party, but a small-scale home can be converted to feel cozy and inviting. You can do this by keeping your chairs or sofa close together and then piling on a textile and rugs in neutral colors like brown, beige, green, and their underlying tones. Of course, with such a small amount of space, less is more.

Install lighting on the walls

Wall sconces are an excellent choice for indoor lighting. It not only adds space, but it also adds wonderful sparks of light where you need them. Sconces can also be used as an art piece that you can customize however you want. Likewise, sconces are simple to install and have remote-powered options that can be turned on and off as needed.

Keep walls all white

The simplest trick to making a space look bigger than it is to brighten it with white paint. Paint your walls and ceilings white, and then hang a few paintings on either side. A coffee table can be placed in the center if you like. This way, you could make a vibrant piece of art or furniture the main point of the room, and it won’t seem like the walls are closer to each other.

A home is a home as long as it feels like one, regardless of its size and structure. What matters is that you keep it clean and comfortable for yourself and the people who live in it.
